Where is the Watersound Club Sporting Preserve located?
The sporting clays course is located north of Shark’s Tooth Golf Course. The Sporting Preserve is serviced out of the Shark’s Tooth Clubhouse, where Members check-in for their round, rent guns, purchase ammo and retail items, and check out their Kawasaki Mule.
What can I expect when I show up for a round on the sporting clays course?
Members should arrive at the Shark’s Tooth Golf Shop at your designated time. From there, you will be escorted approximately 1.5 miles to the sporting clays course on Side Camp Road via Kawasaki Mules. You will be guided through the course by a range officer or trapper who will release targets for you while prioritizing safety.
Do I need to bring anything with me to the sporting clays course?
All necessary equipment is kept on site and available for use. Shotguns, ammunition, transportation, and targets are available for rent/purchase. Experienced shooters may bring their own shotguns if they so choose.*
Cold bottles of water are kept on the mules and are always accessible. It is important to stay hydrated!
How do I book the sporting clays course?
Booking for the sporting clays course is done through the Member app. It is currently found under Tee Times > Course > Sporting Clays. Current availability is for groups of up to four people at either 8 AM or 1 PM, Wednesday through Sunday.
I’ve never been on a sporting clays course. How can I learn about the sport before I try the Watersound Club Sporting Preserve?
Private lessons are also available, and reservations can be made based upon availability by contacting the GM or emailing SportingPreserve@stjoe.com.
Can I bring my young children with me to try the sporting clays course?
Children should have sufficient upper body strength and maturity to handle a firearm. Although there are exceptions, generally we start shooters no younger than 14 years of age to ensure they have a positive experience.
What should I wear to the sporting clays course? Is there a dress code?
Dress comfortably and be prepared to be in the sun for two hours (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.). There is not a formal dress code, however, open-toe shoes are prohibited.
